Track Event Roles

The following roles are required for every track race.

Starter

Starts each race once the Timekeeper and Marshalls confirm they're ready.

How to start a race:

  1. Ensure all athletes are on their marks
  2. Check Timekeeper and Marshalls are ready (via walkie talkie)
  3. Call: "On your marks…" pause, "Set…" pause, BANG (via electronic start device)

Timekeeper

Records finishing times for each race.

  • Start the timer on the Starter's signal
  • Trigger for each athlete crossing the finish line
  • Pass times to the Recorder

Marshalls

Guide athletes through the finish and hand out place cards.

  • Stand beyond the finish line
  • Hand numbered cards to athletes in finish order (1st, 2nd, 3rd…)
  • Guide athletes in order to the Recorder

Recorder

Collects and logs all race results into ResultsHQ.

Hurdles helpers

For hurdles races only:

  • Position hurdles in the correct lanes before the race
  • Adjust heights for each age group
  • Reset any knocked hurdles between heats
